I experienced a misfire with my model 87 this year so I'm planning on replacing the spring and probably the pin this winter. Any pointers from anyone that's done this would be greatly appreciated.

if you pm me your email address, I will send you a virus free copy of the field maintenance manual that will show you how to do that, along with disassembly of your gun

of you can get it here, the site is virus free today. the server had been infected, looks like they cleaned it off

Thanks, I've got the field manual and found a great video on YouTube. Inspected the pin and it looks fine. I'm ordering new spring today.

Make sure the firing pin hole and the trigger group is clean. That may be your only problem. Old oil will often turn to grease slowing things down quite a bit.

I thought that I'd post this here as it's vaguely related:

I had a misfire in my M37, but only when the forend was held back. For example, see the penultimate attempt to shoot in this video:

I believe that the cause was a worn end of the slide release lever. (Swapping trigger groups fixed it, though my long-term plan is to order a new lever from Ithaca and fit it.)

Regards,

Mark.
Came late in life to shooting but is making up for lost time...

Thanks for all the help. The problem was the spring but the guy at Ithaca recommended changing the pin also. Job completed and test fired and ready to drop another buck next season.
