Where abouts are you guys? Here in Ontario ruffed grouse is open all year(classed as small game). But whitetail ends this month and I still have 1 tag to fill with my X-bow. :(

Oh I'm north of Detroit a ways. If I go grouse hunting I need to travel at least 200 miles. All year? Oh Michigan's laws are weird about grouse it opens before deer season then all small game season closes for firearm deer then they open back up on dec 1st.
Good luck filling that tag I actually saw a spiker last week walking in the woods with my dog. Durring hunting season I must of walked 30 miles with not one buck sighted, guess that's just public land for ya  I actually managed to get a picture of him

He is a nice little buck, good pic. I have never hunted public land but can imagine it would be tricky.

Firearm deer season in Nova Scotia is from the last Friday in October until the first Saturday in December.Believe the bow season is a week before and a week after as well as the rifle season dates.

What I stated in my last post was for partridge (ruffed grouse) season.

Well the partridge season closed here on December 31st.One of the worst years I have ever had.Bagged only two birds and saw only about half a dozen all season.I thought last year was the bottom but I guess I was wrong.Hopefully next season will be better.

Cold wet springs and habitat loss have raised hell with the bird population in S.Alberta the last few years. A few years ago it wasn't unusual see 100 wild roosters in a day.
This last season I also hunted in N. Sask. lots of ruffys and spruce grouse. Also lots of waterfowl.
I hunt on the prairies with the farmers and then they come out salmon fishing with me in the summer. Works great. I'll be heading out icefishing shortly.
