Good deal man!

We have some of the same issues, Ivy is coming along great well beyond what I can train just from her breeding and instinct. Shes breaking herself from the bad habit stuff!

She was initially flushing on her own, but is breaking herself of that too. She's getting to where she holds a point while we're kickin and stoppin to flush the bird. She can sometimes see it, and still wont break. She has begun waiting on us, cept for that one pheasant...

Usually our fault too if we dont get the bird, if not always!!!

This is Mazie, my 7-year-old English setter. She's a big runner and has three placements in horseback field trials (handled by one of my best friends, who's a professional bird dog trainer). In all honesty, she's a bit too much dog at this point for a one-legged fat man like me, but Lord, how I love to watch her in action! She's a descendant of Tekoa Mountain Sunrise, the No. 1 setter of all time. Hunting with her has become much less stressful since the invention of the Garmin Astro GPS tracking device.

This is Kota, my 4-year-old pointer. She's a rescue from Korea (that's a long story, but one I love to tell if anyone's interested). I was just trying to save her life – I didn't really care if she ever pointed a bird or not – but she's turned out to be a solid hunter with an excellent nose. She doesn't have Mazie's natural ability or relentless drive, but that's okay. I couldn't handle two Mazies.

Here's Zeke, my 10-year-old Lab. He's in semi-retirement now, but I still use him to bust roosters out of extremely heavy cover. In his prime, he was a terror on wild pheasants and to this day he has no fear of anything – he'll dive straight into a patch of wild blackberries if he thinks there's a bird in there that needs to be pushed out. He's responsible for many of my fondest hunting memories.

I hope everyone is having a good hunting season. It'd be great to link up with some of you guys somewhere to pursue some birds.

You have some great working dogs! I bet its a real pleasure watching them do their jobs in the field. I don't have any dedicated hunting dogs yet but plan to pick one up soon.

Great looking working dogs!!! I'm partial to the pointers! ;)

I'd be interested in hearing about Kota too!
