Since Ditchparrot shared such a fantastic story and photo of his dog, I thought I would share a couple of photos of mine.

This is Raven, a papered bluetick coonhound. At 130 pounds he is a giant for his breed, but was one of the best trailers I ever had. He is 9 and doesn't hunt anymore. Poor old fella has arthritis pretty badly so now he is just in charge of morale.

And this is Dakota. She is a majestic hound, which is what they call a bloodhound/coonhound mix. in Her case, she is half Black and tan. She's 4 and a great hunter. That bloodhound nose doesn't miss a thing! She can catch cottontails on a dead run! I took this photo in the field last year.

Brings back fond memories of the Bluetick hound my dad used to have. He had some Red Walker hounds too.

thanks Shooter, they are great dogs. I think hunting with a dog is the most fun you can have in the woods. Even if you don't find anything, it is alot of fun working with them.

Thanks 20. I have to admit I am pretty happy with these two.

Colonel, believe it or not I hunt all small game with them. Rabbits and birds. Dakota's nose is so good she can track birds as they fly off. I learned how to use big hounds on small game from my uncle who used to hunt alot in deep snow. Those strong long legs can power through the deepest drifts. He taught me that if you get them when they are puppies, like 8 weeks you can pretty much teach them to hunt anything you want in any way you want. Raven used to actually point and flush when he was able to hunt.
