Any real advantage one way or the other between the 20" vs. the 26" smoothbore DS barrels?

I'm not interested in a rifled barrels, just smoothbores.

In my opinion the 20 inch barrel is more nimble; however I personally prefer the longer barrel for sighting reasons.

Taste. especially at short range. You won't see any difference in ballistics until you go out 50-75 yards and then other factors also take over like choke, payload, etc.

Aside from sight radius, (obvious) the 26" barrel offers no advantage over a 20" in a straight bored DS barrel then using either traditional Brenneke slug or buckshot I gather.

I wish Ithaca would start making a 20" smoothbore DS barrel again. From the way guys jump all over the older ones on GunBroker, they should be able to cash in on em and keep the company solvent on barrels alone!

Not everyone, (apparently, me included) wants the restrictions of a rifled barrel).

Well, if you wanted to, you could use a home defense model 5 shot version. 18" barrel....

I just bought a used DS 20" smoothie. That should do it. ;)

It should, just make sure you check the headspace so you don't have a problem!

Will do, Jim! The auction gods smiled on me and I also picked up a King Ferry 3" magnum rifled 20" DS barrel for cheap! Don't know if I'll keep em both, but a rifled barrel may be of some use...I couldn't resist as the only bidder with minutes to go in the auction.

That's great! hang onto it. Somebody may really want/need it at some point and you'll be able to do OK selling it. "accessory" barrels never seem to go out of style.
