Can an older bbl be cut and fitted with tubes with regular success? I've found a bbl with a serial # to be fitted to the gun, and wish to have it cut, and tubes installed. Unless, of course I can find a 26" bbl to have fitted, and just open the choke up.
Any insight?

Any 37 Ithaca with a serial number before 855,000 or 1963 will only except the barrel it came with. They are NOT interchangeable. That is why the older barrels have serial numbers as they only fit one gun.

Older barrels can be "fitted " to a different receiver by Diamond Gunsmithing.
Go back through some of the older posts, drcook outlined exactly what has to be done in fitting a barrel to a older receiver. |

I also have an acquaintance / gunsmith here in Ohio that can fit Ithaca barrels. He does nice work. I have been in his shop and seen samples of what he does.
