How can I tell if a barrel will fit my 1978 model 37 just by examining the barrel threads?
I need a full choke field barrel and often the seller has no idea as to when it was made.
Thanks

one way you can tell is if the "threads" have a "pitch" to them, just like a bolt. they will run on a helical. this will be the old style threads. The new style (post ser nbr 855,000) are simply parallel "v's", they have no pitch.
threads run like this || , new style threads run like this \\ , old style |

I have an extra full choke barrel with no seial number on it and it fits my 1974 Ithaca 37 just fine. Don't know where you live but if is close to Nebraska you could try it on your's. Heck, I'd even try to sell it to you.
Rex Edit to correct date. My 37 is a 1972. |
