Hi, was wondering if anyone knew of a gun smith that could fit a pre 855 barrel to a pre 855 receiver? It was my dads gun and was dropped from a tree stand and bent the end of the barrel, It could not be saved, Had it cut back by a smith and the bead installed but has no choke now, I found a pre 855 barrel but do not know what i am getting into, I would love to get this gun in working order with a donor barrel, I miss it, Used it for everything in season, any direction would be a great help, Thanks Ed...

les does them at dimondgunshithing.com
you could also try ithaca ,i'm pretty sure they could handle that |

Send it to Les.
I believe (key word believe) he mentioned over on Shotgunworld that he charges 75.00 to do the fitting. If a person does not understand the dimensional relationships, the barrel can be loose, out of time with the receiver, etc. It needs to bottom out when the lug lines up with the centerline of the mag tube for the barrel nut to lock it in place. How short is original the barrel now ? |

The barrel is 26' now,Thanks for the info, I will get with less, Thanks Ed...

Ed,
It costs around $75.00 to have the barrel threaded for choke tubes. There are numerous folks that are reputable to do the job. You could ask Les if he does 16's, the folks here probably know of a few reputable smiths that have the tooling, and there are some over on Shotgunworld that are highly recommended. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/index.php A 26" barrel with choke tubes would be a fantastically versatile 16ga. In fact, I am going to have one or more of my 16ga barrels threaded for tubes. http://www.colonialarms.com/index.html Colonial choke tubes are listed at $21.50 each. So you could start with a "modified one" and go from there as needed. http://www.colonialarms.com/ct01.html Think about this option.................. Dave |
