Anyone know if any of the repro manufacturers have buttplates that are oversized for fitting to the wood ?
On my 1956 16ga the buttstock was bigger than the buttplate. I know I could sand it down, but it needs almost a 1/16" removed all the way around, so I would have to do a lot of sanding to get the stock down and maintain the correct proportions.
The buttplate that was on it is the same size as the one on the 1948/1949 16's I have, so it has not shrank.
The other 16ga over at the pawnshop also exhibits the same thing, ie" the stock was not cut down to fit the buttplate.

Numerich lists 2 styles of butplate for the '37, not sure if they're genuine Ithaca, or re-pops. I bought one of the red "Sunburst" pads from them, seems to be new old stock.
