I dealt with Randy over on the 16ga http://www.16ga.com/forum/ forum and provided him the following information.
I had to learn about the King Ferry choke tubes while I was recently making some purchases of a couple barrels I found in a shop. The following is what I found out and am sharing with you all. King Ferry barrels take Colonial choke tubes. I have 5 King Ferry barrels here at the house. All 5 use Colonial tubes. Or what I should say, all 5 use the True-choke pattern chokes, of which Colonial carries. http://www.colonialarms.com/index.html So, unless Ithaca (while at King Ferry) used 2 different thread patterns for choke tubes, buying them from Colonial is the easiest way to go. In the 16ga arena, I have Colonial tubes in the flush fitting line, 2 Full, 2 Mod, 1 Skeet, 1 I-Cyl tubes and in the extended line rated for steel, Full, Mod, IC and a turkey choke, all fit each of the King Ferry barrels. All of these tubes actually say Colonial on them, along with the Choke rating. My 12 ga guns each came with IC, Mod and Full tubes. While they don't say Colonial on them (as the 16's specifically do, and I have the Colonial Co plastic tubes that the chokes shipped in, these tubes have the choke rating (Full,Mod) and the thread pattern on them .....) they still have the same dimensional characteristics as the 16's and it is easy to see that they are of the same design as ones that say Colonial. They are called "True" chokes on Colonial's website and use a
clarifying my post here, this is for the 16ga chokes, the other gauges use their appropriate thread specs...drc On Carlson's website http://www.choketube.com/index.php there is a choke tube interchangeability chart http://www.choketube.com/choke-tube-int ... -guide.php on it there is a blurb about
there is also information about newer model Ithaca 37 choke tubes Cabelas also has a choke interchange chart http://www.cabelas.com/custserv/custser ... risonChart HOWEVER Carlson's does not carry 16ga chokes, as Colonial does, they (Colonial) carry an extensive line of 16ga tubes. AS A INFORMATIONAL tidbit, Colonial states that their flush fitting chokes are NOT RATED FOR STEEL
So the Choke tubes that came with our guns may not be rated ! One set I have that came with one of the 12ga guns are actually blued. I will check them with a magnet as carbon steel reacts to a magnet more than stainless does. Regardless, I will not shoot steel shot from the existing 12ga tubes I have, but will buy a couple actual steel rated ones from Colonial. Dave |
