If using 2.75" is it 8+1? I'll occasionally see mention of an 8 round tube capacity for the defense models. If you can get 7 3" shells in, that leaves you a bit more than an inch shy of 8 2.75" shells.

3gun HM division allows 8+1 capacity for the pumps, so was hoping...

Let me rustle up some 2.75" shells and find out for you.

The M37 Def I bought about six years back or so will hold only seven 2.75" and one up the pipe.

I do not have any 3" handy, but I remember it was 7+1 in that form too.

Ok, was afraid that would be the case, but unsurprising. Will have to ask one of the forum sponsor gunsmiths about adapting a Turkey Slayer's mag tube to accommodate 8 rounds. There's another gunsmith out in Trinidad, CO that supposedly likes odd projects as well.

I bought an old 37 on Gunbroker as well as a 7 round replacement mag tube from Numrich Gun Parts. I'd read that the mag tube threads of a 37 and an 870 are the same. May just buy a +1 extender for an 870 to test that claim.

Once I know the answer there on the thread pitches, I'll be able to send out the gun and the parts for work. The slide release is a bit strange for a lefty, but suppose I'll get used to it.

Well, a Vang Comp Remington 870 +1 extension threads on to a replacement Ithaca 7 round tube quite nicely.
I found that the 37 I bought though has a full choke barrel. Isn't shotgun barrel choking near/at the muzzle?
I'd planned to have a smith replace the stock mag tube with the Ithaca 7 round tube, attach the extension, cut the barrel a bit longer than the extended mag tube and then thread for chokes. Also I bought a left hand safety and a new brass sight bead. Result: an 8+1 Ithaca 37 with interchangeable chokes for HM 3-gun. Might name it Frank(enstein).

That name would be appropriate... ;)

Hmmmmmmmmm, I have seen bad stocks on the common 30", full choke, 12ga models for sub $200 a few times that could use some bluing... (think great winter project with a syn stock).

Do you have any pictures of the 870 mag tube attached? I wonder if I could simply buy a new Ithaca mag tube. :?: Then shorten the barrel to 22-20" with the 7+1 in 2.75" :)
