I am the proud new owner of a 1995 Deerslayer PS with a rifled 20" barrel. I was wondering how to properly lubricate the bolt and any other parts that need lubrication. Does the stock need to be removed? JMB's design of the M37 appears to make it a little more complicated to disassemble than the Remington 870 that I'm used to!
Thanks!
Chris
Proper lubrication of the M37?

I have been shooting M37s for over 50 years. I have never taken one apart. The only lub. I have done is a drop of oil in the grove where the bolt rides in the receiver now and then.
I have put many thousands of shells through one of my guns shooting trap and that is all I have done. Don't over lub. Of course I wipe them down with an oily cloth. T.W.K. |

Depending on where you live and how the gun was used, the receiver can get full of crud. here is a link to a field maintenance guide to help you take it apart
http://stevespages.com/pdf/ithaca_3787.pdf to at least just taking off the buttstock. use an extension and a 3/8 or 7/16 socket. depends on which stock bolt you have. at minimum, spray the receiver out with brake cleaner, spray some RemOil or other good lube in and let it drain while the stock is still off. Over lubing and storing the gun standing up causes the stock to rot out from the oil draining down into it |
