Greetings everyone, I'm new to the forums and live in Virginia, sell Site Furnishings for a living and love nice firearms and especially Ithaca products. I have an older Model 37 16 GA and have a question about the new Model 37 28 GA.

Considering the way the shotgun feels in the hand and for balance, what barrel length do you think would be best with the 28 GA, 26 or 28"?

I may only use the shotgun occasionally and probably just bird and squirrel hunting.

Thanks a lot!

Hello and welcome to the site.I have a 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37.I went with the 26 inch barrel as I like the shorter barrels for use in the thick stuff in the uplands.

Thanks for your nice welcome and for the info on yours, I've been looking at my shotguns and measuring today trying to find the best option but it's all a matter of holding and swinging both which is almost impossible. I did get to a local gun store and tried a Rem 870 and Browning BPS In 20 with the two bbl lengths but it's just not the same.

Be sure to let us know what you decide on.The 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37 are great shotguns for use in the uplands.Since purchasing mine in 2009,it has been the only one of all my 28 gauge shotguns, to see use in the field.

I saw your gun on the photos page it's beautiful. I'm also happy to hear that Canada isn't too strict on guns, and there seems to be plenty of hunting, you hear so many stories but only 1% are usually ever true! When I got to Canada people ask me if my neighborhood is safe haha because all they put on the news for the sheeples is bad stuff.

I believe you must have mixed up my shotgun with someone else's as I do not have a picture of mine.

Think you are right about the news.

Yes plenty of hunting going on.

What type of birds do you plan on hunting with your 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37 when you get it?

Sorry maybe I saw your gun on 28gaugesociety or maybe not. Anyway, I just can't wait to shoot mine, I already bought the gun but had to send it in for adjustment and I'm waiting to get it back. It's a petite gun and that's what I like, I hope it feels as good as my 28 double. the customer care at Ithaca is awesome, companies could learn a lot from them.

I have a few acres of land so I might just shoot targets, I'm really not much of a hunter. We do have tons of squirrels rabbits, possums and snakes though!

Did you shoot the shotgun?Just wondering how you knew the shotgun had to be adjusted and what had to be adjusted?

When I got the shotgun home, I loaded some shells into it and they wouldn't go into the chamber without some force, it's like something was binding up I don't know so I sent it back in and they are returning it to me this week. I tried 3 different brand shells and the didn't work so I knew something needed adjustment.

Most likely a bit of adjustment like you say.Sometimes it does not take much to cause trouble.

What grade did you get and what barrel length?

I got a grade A with a Grade A wood (which I hated the wood) so I asked the factory to switch it out for AAA. The barrel is 28".

I think they're sending it back this week fingers crossed and I'll shoot it Saturday if I can! I used to shoot my 16 GA except it has no pad and kicks hard but it's a looker so I keep it ;)
