I am waiting for a model 37 16 ga (circa 1953) to arrive at my door any day now. It was put into a case wet and left there for a while. There are some rust spots etc to clean up and the wood needs to be redone. I know there is no butt plate or grip cap on this shotgun by the photos I have seen. For the price I paid ($160 delivered) it was not an issue. Can someone give me the original length of pull of this shotgun? I want to determine if someone cut the stock and installed a recoil pad once upon a time, or if I just need to find a butt plate.
Does anyone have a butt plate and or a grip cap that they would like to sell?

I don't know specifically about the Model 37, but I would think the standard LOP would have been 14" or maybe a fraction more.
For a replacement butt plate you could try Vintage Gun Grips: http://vintagegungrips.net/itbu.html . They are reproductions and require a little trimming, but the material is easy to work with and they are hard to tell from the originals. I got one for my Ithaca Flues SxS recently and looks very nice. Just be sure you measure carefully before you order. If you need the screws, they probably have those too. |
this would be the correct buttplate for that gun
http://vintagegungrips.net/itmo121620bu.html this would be the grip cap that came on the gun http://www.csmcspecials.com/Ithaca_Grip_Cap_p/pg040.htm you would use very fine wet or dry paper, like 600 then 1000 or 1200 grit and then white toothpaste to polish it out to the factory finish, which was smooth, |
