Hello all. I'm new to the forum. I have a 16 gauge featherlight that had the butt stock cut to a 12-1/2" LOP. The work was well done, but I need a 14 - 14-1/2" LOP. My question is: will a 12 gauge butt stock fit a 16 gauge receiver? Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, but.........
The receivers are the same width, but the different gauges use different height receivers. You would probably (probably) need to relieve some of the inletting and the stock would be a bit oversized and need finished down. http://www.gunstocksinc.com says that. they sell replacement 12/16's and 20 gauge stocks but are currently out of stock. I have found if they get enough interest, they do another run, so you could contact them. http://www.gunstocksinc.com/web_pages/P ... stocks.htm http://www.gunstocksinc.com/web_pages/P ... aca-37.htm you can also get a new, completely finished stock from IthacaGun www.ithacagun.com most of the stocks you see out on eBay get subjected to bidding wars and end up costing a lot |

Dave -
Thanks for the reply. I had wondered about the fitting. I noted some 12 gauge stocks at Numrich, but no 16 gauge. Also, do you (or anyone else) have any experience with Macon Gunstocks? They advertise a stock for 16 gauge (also saying final finishing required). As a wood worker, don't mind the fit and finish; just don't want to try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.. |
Macon are decent folks to deal with. A friend bought one and it was a little big, needed sanded down to fit.
I would not hesitate to purchase one from them. If you are going to spend the money anyway, there is a set out on gunbroker that I wanted but someone is bidding it up http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =413749576 |
