Looks like the Ithaca web site is selling swivel studs now.

For M&P, DSPS, and models with takedown barrels:

Hi I'm new to the forum, I have owned a "37" for many years, but have really never used it. Now I am looking to get a new rifled slug gun & the thought crossed my mind to purchase a rifled slug gun from Ithaca, My question is this a good idea? would I be getting the equivalent of a "DeerSlayer"? I have put this question to a few people and never get a good answer, so I thought I would ask the people who know! My reasoning is that the "37" is there, doing nothing but collecting dust, why not put it to use?
I looked at the Ithaca website & they offer both a standard barrel & a cantilever barrel, can my "37" be drilled & taped for a scope? or would I need the cantilever barrel?. ANY & ALL advise will be appreciated, Thanks msn

Yes your gun could be drilled and taped for a scope mount but I personally would never do that for two reasons. First the value of the gun will go down. Second every time the barrel is removed you will lose your zero. By the time you spend the money to have the gun drilled and taped you could pay the difference in price for the cantilever barrel and you will not loose your zero when you take off the barrel to clean it.

Thanks, that is what i was thinking, What is your opinion, if I purchase the barrel from Ithaca would I have a gun that will perform as well as the "Deer SLayer"? or should I scrap the idea and just purchase a rifled shotgun?. I am not sure just what a barrel will cost from Ithaca but I see the price is over $300.00 on their website, That would be a good part of the cost of a new "Deerslayer" , but If I could get "Deer Slayer" performance by purchasing a barrel I think I would do it, Thanks again, msn

That gun has some nice figure in the stock. By the way I did not say that drilling and tapping the receiver would NOT work. I simply pointed out that by the time you pay to have it drilled and tapped plus the mount you could just about cover the cost difference of a cantilever barrel with out devaluing the gun.

Oh no worries I wasn't trying to imply that, simply just saying it works good. :) the mount cost me $100 (Canadian) I believe. But you are very correct saying it does devalue your gun......but I'm ok with that...... Well gotta head out to the deer stand before it gets light ;)

A new DSII is running about $900. A rifle sighted barrel is running $275 while a cantilever barrel is running $325. The Ithaca split thread barrel system is the tightest lock up you can get with a removable barrel shotgun. You will gut very good results from it however that being said; you will never get quite as good results as a fixed barrel. Both systems will get the job done just fine.

I am new to this site so I may be on the wrong thread or something but I am looking for a sling swivel for my "Choate Folder for Ithaca 37" Folding Stock (Code: 04-01-22) that can be removed for changing the sling more easily. Where the "Choate Folder" rear sling is located is too wide for standard sling swivels that I have found. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello all-

I have inherited my Dads M87 DSPS 12ga. and its pretty much brand new judging by the gun shop's counter guy salivation...

I just have a few questions:

1) I purchased 3" shells for it and I'm only getting 6+1 of those suckers in there, but people are claiming 8+1 for that model?
How could I accurately measure the barrel without removing it?

2) I saw on Cabela's website a listing for a M37 "Tactical Pump" with an AR-style collapsible stock (not folding)... I don't see it listed on Ithaca's website or anywhere else for that mater... any links or leads anyone may have? I would much prefer the collapsible stock than the folder personally.

Thanks in advance and here are some Pics...

The way the ATF measures the barrel is to put a wooden dowel down the barrel to the breech block. mark the end of the barrel and measure. That is the legal length.

You can also simply measure from the end of the receiver to the barrel end and add 5/8 to the measurement. The actual measurement from the end of the barrel back to the shoulder is not quite 5/8's but 5/8's is close enough to use.

With an Ithaca 37, either method will be within 1/8 in or less of each other.
