Hi everyone! I recently acquired a Model 37 ds Police Special. I don't know much about it but the serial starts with 371709. Is it a slam fire gun? How desirable are they? Also what would the value be like for this gun? Thanks for your input!

Very nice and desirable DSPS (Deer Slayer Police Special) with a satin nickle finish. Looks to be about 1976 vintage from the serial number. As for the slam fire it may or may not have it. I can tell if it has slam fire by dry firing the gun. Obviously ensure the gun is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction. Then dry fire the gun keeping the trigger depressed and rack the slide. If the fore arm starts to push it self forward when the gun is almost in battery then the hammer is ridding the bolt forward and it does not have slam fire. If the fore arm does not seem to want to push itself into battery and you hear a click when it goes into battery then it does have slam fire. If you have a hard time telling then take the gun down. If you do not know how try looking for a You Tube video, there should be several of them. If the hammer has a spur on the side of it then it has slam fire. Please be aware that slam firing is often discouraged. Many folks consider it to cause excessive wear on the action and a possible safety hazard. If the action is worn it could fire before the shell is in full battery. It should be noted that shotguns capable of holding more than 5 rounds are on the list of our legislative wonders in Washington for possible banning. Thanks for sharing such a nice piece.

Thanks for the info! I may get to shoot it in the next couple days. What do you estimate the value to be?

Add to that an extended magazine tube and you have a gun that a lot of people want and few can find.

@Mateoconamor
I've been sifting through older threads here. Are you still interested in unloading that DSPS?
