Well, I've finally cracked!

I brought home an IMI/Magnum Research Desert Eagle MK VII today...

Image

It came in to my LGS on trade and the price was too good to pass up. This one's chambered in .357mag, so I don't have to spend $1.50+ every time I pull the trigger although I do see myself eventually investing in the .50AE conversion barrel/bolt at some point. I can't wait to get it out to the range in the morning...

Thank you Sir!

Took it out today and put 100 rounds down range. Had to go to three different Wally World stores to find any .357mag ammo and all I could come up with was 50rds of 110gr Winchester white box and 50rds 125gr Remy UMC. Started out with a couple mags of the Winchester stuff and it had me worried 'cause I couldn't get more than one round off at a time. The ammo didn't have enough poop and was short stroking the slide. It just couldn't push that massive slide back far enough to catch the next round. Switched up the the Remy ammo and put all 50rds through it without a hiccup. Went back to finish off the WWB and to my surprise they all fed smoothly too. Guess it just needed to run for a bit. Didn't have a single jam or FTE through the entire 100 rounds. The recoil was a LOT lighter that I expected too. I was put'n a 9rd mag in a 3-4" group at 25yds so I'm very pleased with the way it shoots.

The Desert Eagle is certainly on my list of handguns to own. Glad to hear it shot well.

This rig is fully adjustable and will also fit all of my mid to full sized pistols. I'll post up a full review once I've had a chance to put it through the paces...

That is a nice looking rig. How does it balance when you wear it? It looks like it would help you wear it easily keep it nice and tight on you.

Thank you Sir,

Most of the weight is supported by the top strap so a sturdy belt necessary, but it wears comfortably and feels really natural on. The leg straps are nice and snug, keeping the pistol close in and not allowing it to move around while you're walking. I'm really happy with it so far...

It looks like a pretty smart design, glad it's working out for you. I always thought about getting one of those big desert Eagle cannons.

That it does.

It's surprising, but it actually hits harder than my N-frame .44mag snubbie...

With all that weight (mass)in the slide, you would think it would be a recoil tamer.

I thought so too, but I have to feed it 158gr or higher for reliable operation. The 125gr target loads don't even have enough poop to make it out of the chamber. The majority of the weight sits forward in the barrel and the slide itself is relatively low mass...

It comes movin back in a big hurry and I use every bit of that beavertail to keep it off my arm...
