The quinessential blade from your childhood...a Buck Knife. How many here started their collections with this staple from the past...and how many will hand down an heirloom from their father to their son or daughter...the first knife in many a young persons hands.

This Buck was given to me by my Father on my 10th Birthday...the first of many fine edged weapons in my collection...

Here's another Buck knife that I purchased while on TDY ( Travel Duty ) for the DoD in San Diego, California. I would always pick up a pocket knife and a Zippo lighter from each destination I visited...

I have a few Buck knives. A fixed blade, a 110 (everybody has to have at least one of them), and for Christmas this year I got one of the 371 Stockmans. Now the 371 is the Chicom version of the good old fashioned USA made 301. I wouldn't buy a Chicom knife for myself, but it was a gift so I have been packing it for the last couple of months and putting it through its paces. I must say that it is over built, like a tank! It also has springs that would make any Case jealous. The only thing that I wish was better was the choice of metal, it is a pretty soft stainless. I usually prefer good ol' high carbon steel because all too often, if it won't rust it won't cut unless it is a stainless that is properly heat treated.
Now just for comparisons sake, I ordered a Buck 301 night before last. I'll compare it to the Chicom knife and let you all know how it stands up. It does have a better class of stainless with a rumored better heat treat. I'll compare them and let you all know how the comparison turns out. I really do like Buck and their corporate values. They are a great company and they make some tough knives. |

My first knife was a cheapie chinese made Buck look-alike.
After I had figured out my mistake, I quickly moved to a Buck 110 folding hunter. Owned three of them. Replaced the first when I broke the tip, lost that one and then got another new one. Ended up breaking the tip of that one later on too. Recently dug out and sent in both remaining 110's for blade replacement. Very happy with the result. A Buck Vanguard was finally added to my stable after several years of drooling at them. Got to play with a Buck Nighthawk Jr before they were discontinued. Very impressed. |

I finally joined the rest of the world and got my first 110 last week and I'm 70!
