I think they both have a place and use. A plain blade, I think it more suited for "everyday" use, but a serrated blade can be very useful in some situations.

True. A serrated blade like on my Leatherman tool (indespensible) workd great for cutting tubing, fuel line, or those blamed clam shell packages.

But I draw the line at those half serrated, tanto point, spaceship looking knives.

I had laugh a little there, Colonel. I can't begin to count the number of times I've cursed, cussed, and generally got unsettled over those damn clamshell packages! I feel your grief there. I use one of those folding utility knives to deal with those and hope I don't ruin whatever's inside in the process!
