I hunt an abandoned distillery from time to time.
it borders a game land that they stock pheasants at.so many get pushed onto it off the game lands

its pretty much completely overgrown tho somebody does mow access paths around the property.I no longer can build up enough curiosity to explore the buildings but I do hunt among them .
its is kinda surreal pushing thru 6' goldenrod in between 60' brick warehouse like buildings.
sorta reminds me of one of them post civilization movies.

what is stranger is once living in what is now considered an abandoned village.
ive seen photo blogs from urban explores of my old house as well the houses of neighborhood friends.
urban legends have spread and even talk of paranormal activity.
my old house is even the central location of a fictional ghost story.

one of these days I'm gonna show up at one of the tours just to see what there selling

I was over there today getting the dog some exercise

the goldenrod is coming in nicely its about 18" high

there's about 12 building like that back there along with a few steel tanks and block buildings.
there's also an old stone manor house and an old barn that's collapsing .
it would make a great addition to the gamelands if you can get past the building liability

seen 2 doe and 1 leftover hen pheasant.

I do believe the site is due for lead cleanup...

I believe it was a whiskey distillery .
I don't think ground clean up would be as costly as tearing down the structures and removing the rubble

OK...I thought we were talking about the Ithaca Gun Factory...not the old distillery you added to this thread.

Tearing down any old building would at least involve removal of hazardous materials like asbestos.

I just thought I'd expand the topic abit as old firearms factories are few and far between.
places you can get into are next to impossible.

there are plenty of old abandoned places around that led to the war effort in one way or another.
they might not be related to Ithaca ,but I do hunt with my Ithaca in them

The distillery I'm talking about is absolutely huge 192 acres ,much to large to just make Kinsey whisky.
they were doing something else at the site off the record.

I have little doubt they also produced medical grade alcohol during the war years.

another site I know of is SGL252

it was known as the town of alvira pop100

it was bought out in 1942 by the gov and the penn ordinance works was constructed.

while its largely reclaimed now there are still about 20 ammo bunkers hidden around it

You list your location as Phila, PA...can you give me the exact location of this abandon distillery...I get down to Philly a few times a week to visit my Mom, and know the area well.

Wouldn't mind checking this place out myself...

the location is now referred to as linfield industrial park.
it borders the lower 234 game lands on the west side

that said be careful ,the police do end up locking up a lot of trespassers there.most often urban explorers , kids partying etc .they don't want people in the buildings
nobody has ever bothered me when hunting it.
