I can trace my family roots back to the end of the 4th century AD...

O'Donnell (Irish: Ó Donaill or Ó Domhnaill), which is derived from the forename Domhnaill (meaning "world ruler", Rex Mundi in Latin, Modern Irish spelling, Dónall) were an ancient and powerful Irish family, kings, princes, and lords of Tír Chonaill (rendered in English as Tyrconnell or Tyrconnel, known today as County Donegal) in early times, and the chief allies and sometimes rivals of the O'Neills in Ulster.
==================================================================
The jewel in the O'Donnell crown was Donegal Castle, one of seven O'Donnell castles, and now a national monument...
... the history of the O'Donnells is for the most part a record of clan warfare with their powerful neighbours...

Well, among the Rossignol and Sizemore, it has just been confirmed that my dads dad was a man by the name of Jefferies (Jeffries, Jefferys or some spelling...) He owned a coal mine in WV where my dads family is from.
I related the story elsewhere about my dads dad saying "youre no son of mine, youre "so and so's" boy". Well that "so and so" is Jefferies. The family still owns a mining company, Global Minerals or something like that. Of particular interest to me, is now that I have a last name and know the area theyre from, I may be able to find some history on them and where they came from! So, having settled in the mountains of Appalachia, chances are that theyre Scotts-Irish, but we'll see! RossignolST

Just did a couple quick searches. Jeffries is actually Welsh. The crest would be a black shield with a gold lion and the motto being translated, "Do right, and fear nothing"
There was an early known immigrant by the name of Jeffries to New England in 1677. I like the motto and I may adopt it even if it isnt mine! RossignolST
