Thanks for the feedback but now I'm confused,

Ithaca Gun Repair VINTAGE ITHACA GUN Co. Firearms
a division of diamond gunsmithing website has the Crass model listed as serial #76600-94108 made in 1903, the serial # I have is 76789
the Lewis model's serial # are 94109-105999 made in 1904.
and now BPskeeter tells me that Walter Snyders book has it listed as a Lewis model.
Am I missing something here?

Well if skeeter has the first edition of the book it could be a mistake. If it's the new updated edition, he could be correct. However, I would think that the Ithaca site would be correct, after all, it's their gun. Let's see what skeeter says. And we can figure this out then.

I went to this link that is listed here on the website:

http://www.ithacagun.com/pdfs/serialnumbers.pdf

Then I went to the other link and it showed what you all were saying, that the Crass was made through 1903.

Think we need to get with the Ithaca folks and have them decide which one is correct. I sent DHonovich a PM, asking for a clarification.

I saw something interesting over there on the Ithaca gun repair site. At the bottom of this page it shows in small print...
*“The Ithaca Gun Company From the Beginning” by Walter Claude Snyder
http://www.diamondgunsmithing.com/IGRC/IGRC.html
weird.

Anyhow, I am looking to see if it's possible to get a hold of Walter, and I already sent both Ithaca Gun Repair and Ithaca Gun Company an email asking for clarification on this. So after that, I guess it's a matter of them returning our questions. Sorry for the delay in advance jeff_o!

You're welcome, Jeff.
Sorry that you happened to uncover a glitch in the system, but they'll get it worked out.
Something that I did notice: on the "Discontinued models" forems here on the website, they show the break between the Crass and the Lewis as 1901, not 1903.
Another question. How many visible screws/pins are there in the side of the reciever (not counting the hinge pin)? Every Crass photo, and mine as well, have 5. I know that the Minier has only 4, but I have not researched the Lewis.

ok! I just received an email from Ithaca Gun Company, BPskeeter is correct. It's a Lewis Model manufactured in 1903. It looks like the Diamond Co's page info is incorrect. Hopefully I'll hear from them soon as well, and I'll forward the email I received from Ithaca stating that their info is wrong....Well, I'm sorry about the confusion you had jeff_o. And thank you BPskeeter for helping clarify this glitch. Rep is sent.

Here's the email they sent me...

Dear Sir,

According to the serial number you provided, the gun would be a Lewis Model manufactured in 1903. This serial number does not fit within the Crass Models – they do not go that high.

Although we only have and service the Model 37’s, there are two Master Gunsmiths who might be able to provide service for this gun and may possibly still have some parts. Les Hovencamp, who was the head gunsmith for the original Ithaca , now owns and operates Diamond Gunsmithing in Ithaca , New York . He can be contacted at 607-273-4510 between 2:00PM and 5:00PM Tuesdays through Fridays. Les’ website is http://www.diamondgunsmithing.com You can also contact Ron Sharp in Ontario , Canada , at 905-774-6368.

Thank You for contacting
