I recently inherited an Ithaca hammerless side by side 20 gauge with SN211182. The SN database tells me the gun was manufactured in 1911 and I need guidance on what loads to shoot. The gun is tight and the chambers are not pitted. So far, I have seen suggestions to load my own to 1911 standards or use Kent traditional game loads made for old English guns. What is the forum's opinion?

first and foremost i'd get the chambers measured.
its very likely that it uses2-1/2 or 2-9/16 shells.

Damascus twist barrels?
if so have a competent gunsmith check it over before trying any type ammo.

after the above is all accounted for ,you want to find low pressure loads like the kent traditional or rst

I'm a big fan of the RST's. I know Kent is a quality load and has a good reputation, but I have personally used the short chamber RSTs

Thanks Ravengunsmith! Today I discovered the barrels are stamped nitro powder and there is an L on the extractor. Can you tell me what the L means?

Not sure. All of my reference books and notes are packed away.
I'll look 'em up when I get them unpacked.

You are welcome (I think) I'm going to be moving in Mid July so it might take a while, so please, if you don't hear from me, do remind me.
