When I purchased this shotgun last winter, it was with the intention of making it a serious shooter, so that I could compete in Black Powder cartridge matches.
I had the chambers opened up to 2 3/4", so that I could use modern cases, and then my plans were to shoot it as-is during the summer season, and then to re-stock it over the winter. Well, that time has arrived.  Here is a photo of the shotgun, and the piece of wood that I'm planning to put on it. Picture doesn't show the figure that is in the wood, but it is pretty nice.
A flash in the pan, a puff of smoke, and a prayer to the great Lord on high...

The semi-beavertail forearm is done, except for the checkering, and I am just now starting to inlet the reciever. I was actually surprised at how complicated this was, as there are several cut-outs for the internal components. Going to be almost like inletting a lock in a muzzleloader.
 I figured that this wood would take some special "purtying up", so just yesterday I got in some new 20lpi checkering tools. Going to wait until both pieces are done before I start checkering, so that I can keep a flow going on the design. After that, I've got to open up the chokes, as well. "Full/Fuller" is a bit too tight for an ol' skeet shooter like me! Took a couple of pictures of the forearm.

When we shoot theblack powder cartridge, the barrels get VERY hot, and the semi-beavertail provides protection for your hand. My wife has to wear a leather glove when she shoots hers, and you can see the glove smoking by the time she finishes a match.
Some folks use a slip-on leather guard that I believe was devised by "Pop" Heikes, but that just accomplishes the same thing. A flash in the pan, a puff of smoke, and a prayer to the great Lord on high...

Well, the forearm is checkered, except for maybe a coat or two more of finish, and I am checkering the buttstock.
Keep in mind that I tend to prefer more of the German style in SxS's, rather than the English, and I am making it to suit me.
