A neighbor asked me to help him figure out what his gun is worth. Here's what I know:
Barrel is stamped Ithaca Gun... London Twist
Sides are stamped Ithaca Hammerless
it's 12 gauge
Last Patent stamp is March 1889
Below the patent stamp is a 12 with a 1 above it.
S#11656
The Ithacagun.com website has a serial number listing that indicats S# 10534 was late 1889, then there is a gap from 9/89- 1891 and it starts back up again in 1892 with 17235. Does that put this gun somewhere in that dead zone or am I missing something? That would make it much older than he thought.
Any idea on a rough value?
Any help is appreciated.. I don't know much abous SxS, I'm more of a Mdl 37 guy.
Looking for age and value

Wow!
That's a nice one. I have a 1896 Crass, and there are significant differences between it and your pictures. I would recommend going over to the Shotgunworld.com website and posting it on the "I love my Ithaca" forum. "Ithacanut" is on there a lot, and he probably knows more about these than anybody. A flash in the pan, a puff of smoke, and a prayer to the great Lord on high...

Area has a bit of a role in value of these old guns. So does the country. Where I am, this would sell in the $350.00-$400.00 range.

Thanks for the reply. Cleveland Ohio.
When I retruned the gun to him with the info I gathered, he mentioned he is interested in selling. |
|
If it ends up for sale, I may be interested. Let me know

What other information were you able to find out? |

I haven't really done much more research on this. The owner is interested in selling, but its not on the top of his list of things to do. He will be travelling to Georgia and Florida over the next couple of months. I think he leaves this week. he could probably be pesuaded to take it with him if someone was along his way.
