Well, my Fletcher Special restocking job is in the finishing stages, so it's time to start planning on doing the Crass that I picked up a few weeks ago.
I was rummaging around in the attic looking at my stock blanks, and I found one that got me thinking.
Back about 20 years ago, I took an old barn beam in in a trade from a fellow that I had done some work for. Barn was 134 years old when they tore it down.
Beam was cherry wood.
Over the years, I have stocked a P-17 Enfield .30-06 with it. I have also built a full-stocked .32 cal flintlock squirrel rifle from that same blank. I have one piece left-just the size for a shotgun.
I know that all the English-style purists would be having conniption fits over this, but I am thinking of stocking the Crass with the cherry from that old barn beam! That would complete the trifecta, rifle shotgun, & muzzleloader.
What do you all think?

I say "go for it!!" sounds like an awesome idea.

Well, the wife and I decided to go shooting last Sun after church, and then when we got home I started to rough inlet the Crass. Golly, cherry cuts SO much easier than walnut!
But I did take some "before" pictures this time.

Skeeter, with your talent for wood, I bet you could cut a stock out of a 2x4 and make it look good. I am sure that piece of cherry will look stunning

I can't wait to see how this one turns out!
