Been restocking an 1896 Crass with a piece of cherry wood, and I'm thinking that it's starting to look like a gun should. Got the carvings roughed in. Plan is to checker inside the carvings - it will be 22 lpi, but I'm of the school that likes to checker on a finished stock, as the finish strengthens the surrounding wood.
Thought that I'd share a little in-process photo or 2.
Remember that the carvings are just roughed in and not finished.

Well, there has been a change of plans.
I started to checker inside the carvings, and I realized that I really don't have enough space inside some of the characters within the carving to get my tools in, so I changed to a stippled background instead. With the raised carving and the rough surface, it will still have an OK gripping quality.
