Here is an Ithaca Magnum 51 12 ga we restored for an Ithaca native now living in Atlanta. He obtained this heavily rusted and neglected gun from someone who pulled it out of a barn. GunBlack sanded, polished and re-blued the steel. We also had Les at Diamond Gunsmithing re-cut the checkering and give the walnut an oil rub finish. It was almost difficult to give this one up after we were done with it. Chambered for 3" magnum 12ga shells. This gun had a 30" fixed full choke vent rib barrel. The Monte Carlo stock was finished with a Pachmayr White Line Recoil Pad and Ithaca grip cap.

What a work of art! I bet it looked even better in person.

Awesome refinshing job !!

Sweet. That means there are 2 of those is the metro Atlanta area. Mine being the other.

Those 51's were underrated. They kinda got caught in the wash of other semi-auto's. I've only seen one and I couldn't pry it out of the guy's hands with a crowbar.

Thanks Jim. I'm a huge fan of the 51. They look great, sound great and shoot great. Every so often I see one on Gunbroker.com at a good price and scoop it up. People have forgotten about that gun so they usually sell for a low price.

they are definitely keepers, Steve. I wish I had the room, I'd probably snag one or two myself. since I already have more than my share of auto-5's and citori's, My wife sagely reminds me that I can't collect them all.
Nice to see your work, too. I stopped bluing a while back and I'll be more than happy to send anyone who comes my way over to you. --Jim

I have 2 Model 51's (I believe they are both first release) and a pre 1970 16 ga Model 37. I always loved Ithaca Shotguns. They are both 12 ga magnum. Serial number is 510085504, the other is 510061657. Does anyone have access to see if these are first release? Tried to post pictures, but I kept getting errors trying to upload.

Very nice '51's...!!

Some very pretty very well-cared-for "51's". One of mine also has the Monte Carlo stock but not nearly as well figured as yours. I'll try to post some pics. as soon as I figure out the procedure. I made a slug barrel for my 12 by cutting a plain barrel off a touch and mounting Remington rifle sights with Silver Solder. It looks and shoots great. About $200, re-crowning and re-bluing included. Some of the larger gunsmith shops have parts like stocks and barrels because of all the action problems and resulting shade tree repairs.
Again can't say enough, very great looking "51's". |

I love both of my Model 51 Ithacas. I bought the first one, a 12ga 28" Mod barrel when I was in college in 1996. It's been my go-to gun since then, Ive taken all sorts of game with it. Honestly I wouldnt take 5K for it I love it so much.
I came across the second Model 51 a few years back at a local gun shop. It's a 12ga, 26" Skeet gun with beautiful wood. I have never seen another one like it so I had to get it. I love the clay pigeon medallion on the bottom of the pistol grip. The Model 51's are one of the best guns for the money that you can buy in my opinion. I am currently looking for a 20ga, 26" IMP CYL gun if anyone has one?
