Purchased this Model 49 recently. It was in sad shape with a lot of rust. I tried my hand at refinishing the gun. (this was my first attempt at this) Here are before and after pics. Also, can anyone tell me when it was made? The S/N is 295476. Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the Ithaca Owners Forum wolfstein !!

Good job on the refinishing.

Ithaca Model 49 .22 caliber

The Model 49 was sold as a tube magazine fed repeater or a single shot with a false tube magazine.

Features:

•Hardwood stock with pressed checkering and hard plastic butt plate.

•Aluminum receiver.

•V notch rear sight, stepped wedge adjustable for elevation.

•Chambered for .22 short, long, and long rifle.

•Length of pull 13 7/8”.

•Barrel length 18”.

•Over all length 35”.

There were two woods used. Walnut and Elm. People say that it was a mid production change; dark to light. The rifle was produced from 1961 through 1971.

The rifle was purpose built for Sears and was built at the Ithaca plant in New York. They also produced another Sears marked rifle that was similar... the Model 49R Repeater. A Model 72 was made in West Germany.
