Hello all!

I have an opportunity to purchase an Ithaca XL 300 in fair condition for $279 plus shipping, it appears to be well used but complete and functional.

can anyone comment on if this is a good gun for the money? Will be a GP gun for everything from duck and goose to turkey.

Concerns are part availability and reliability.

Thanks!

The price is about right for a "fair " gun. The XL 300 is a gas operated semi. The XL900 has the same barrels and inner workings, just the deluxe grade. The barrels are black chromed not blued, so they don't scratch or rust as quick. I am in Canada and Ron Sharp in Ontario has lots of parts. There are gunsmiths in the USA with parts also. I have seen lots on Ebay also. The main thing with all gas operated semis is to keep them clean. Most States insist that you use steel shot for waterfowl so a modified choke or more open should be used. If you can use lead then try a full choke. Good gun. Donald
