I have the opportunity to purchase an Ithaca model 49 22lr single shot lever action. This purchase would be sight unseen, except for pictures exchanged through email. The pictures show the gun as great condition with no defects to the stocks or blueing. However; I'm concerned about the walnut stock. The wood looks to be of higher quality walnut. From my research Ithaca had a 49 deluxe and presentation model with gold hammer, and trigger. This rifle has neither of the two. My question, is the wood original to this gun? Thank you for your help.

The gun is an early model with original wood. If the price was right I would go for it!

Buy It! It is a great looking M-49. I bought one for $100 and it was in much worse shape. It now is a lot better. The M-49R (repeater) was more popular but there are a few M-49 singles out there. Ithaca came out with the Saddlegun 72 later and discontinued the M-49s. Donald
