Hello,
I am from Germany and own a shotgun Mod. 37 Featherlight DS Police Special.
The SerNo. is 4239 stamped.
Could that be the original SerialNo?
According to the files it has to be manufactured in 1938. I doubt that.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards from Germany

Christian

Where is the serial number stamped? If it indeed was built in 1938 the serial number would be stamped on the receiver on the end facing the barrel and the mag tube, between the two. Donald

Well that confuses me. I do not know of any M37s with serial numbers placed there. The serial number you quote should be 1938, but as far as I know they didn't produce MP models then. The Ithaca Gun company did produce War and Police models but as far as I have read they were serial numbered with none MP numbers. Maybe you have a later model that the end user re serial numbered themselves. Now that I have told you "No, Maybe, I don't know" good luck. Maybe some one else can give you better advise. Posting some pictures would help also. Donald

Well I would say that it definitely is not a 1938 vintage. They never had a "corn cob " fore arm back that early. Since the mag tube is longer and there is roll engraving on the receiver I would say that it is either a special build for a police department or it is a war gun. Hope some one else on this site can give you more history on it. It is certainly a "Keeper"! Donald
