I just picked up a model 900 12ga. for $400 , my dad bought me one of these in 20ga when i was a kid ,so i thought it was a fair price to bring back some fond memories..
I have some questions about it tho..the gold engraving has a labrador in a field on one side, and a pair of pheasants taking flight on the other..i have seen other designs on this model ,but never the scenes i have on mine, so my first question is, how many different scenes were used on these guns ?
Are some more rare than others ?
My next question is, the barrel is marked "np mod" ,i figure the mod is for modified choke, but whats the np ? And last question is, can i fire slugs with this barrel ?
Thanks for any info !!

Hello,Tig.Welcome to the site.Cannot answer a lot of your questons but you can shoot old style rifled slugs and balls in your shotgun. Not sure about some of the newer fancy slug loads.

Hope this is of some help.

Is your 900 recoil operated or gas operated? It could be had both ways. The recoil operated 900 is more uncommon than the 900 gas. It later became the XL 900 with silver engraved receiver. I am just guessing that the np is for nitro proof but I could be wrong.

I have a couple of 900s. One is a S7302 SKB Ithaca. It is exactly like the other 900. They are both recoil operated. I have a XL300 and a XL900 and they are both gas operated. I have never seen a gas 900, or a recoil XL 900. Did they really make them? I thought when they went to gas they added the "XL" You are never too old to learn new things! I noticed BC Boy has pictures in both the XL900 recoil and XL900 gas but they look like the same guns. Donald

I have chatted with BC Boy and his picture of two XL 900s in pictures of 900 recoil are indeed gas and he has removed them. I contacted the Ithaca SKB expert (Ron Sharp) in Ontario and he did tell me that all the 900s are recoil semi, and all XL900 are gas semi. without exception. Thanks Donald.
